Quote of the Week 5/21/12

I love to talk. On the phone, in person, in my head, in writing on a blog… no matter the medium, I love it just the same. My friends are the same way. That’s why we get so loud when we’re together, we’re all struggling to be heard over everyone else, but no one wants to stop talking! Talking is easy. Listening is not so much.

Hearing what someone says is an easy thing to do. But there’s a difference between hearing what someone says and actually listening to what someone says. One thing that I’ve perfected since my youth is the ability to actually listen. To take a step back and listen to what someone has to say before immediately inserting my own thoughts or opinions. Sometimes, people don’t need your advice, they just need you to listen to what they have to say.

“Wisdom is the reward you get for a lifetime of listening when you’d have preferred to talk.”
-Doug Larson
